Mike Shone

Mike Shone is a professional civil engineer and town planner with 30 years experience in central and local government as well as with the private sector, national government and international organizations in Australasia, the South Pacific, Middle East, Asia and Anglophone Africa. He is a project management and planning expert in urban and rural development and civil construction and a specialist in employment creation through Labour Based Appropriate Technology in infrastructure works policies, strategies, development planning & development engineering design, implementation and monitoring of both emergency and development programmes. Mike has worked as a specialist in this area for the International Labour Organization over the past 20 years and this has involved work in 37 different countries. He has worked in the ILO ASIST-Africa programme and established and managed the ILO ASIST-Asia Pacific programme. Crisis Response work including RNAs, and employment, training, employment sevices, SME and community development initiatives has been a major part of Mikes work since 2000. He also has important experience as an international consultant for the appraisal and formulation of projects for various United Nations Agencies, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
